After a tearful farewell (we all wore black to mourn), I have made it to Schwarzenberg! My new address is as follows:
Kirche Jesu Christ HLT
Schiller Strasse 18
I know you are all just dying to send me birthday letters, so now you know how!
The night before I left Dresden we had our YSA Family Home Evening at the church. Mr.P, one of our investigators, paid a surprise visit! I was overjoyed! Then Elder Stephens and Stoddard told me they had a present for me. I opened up an old photo frame with the picture of the Mona Lisa, a postcard, and a piece of chocolate. It was really random and they kept laughing the whole time I was unwrapping the gift. I was just excited that they got me a gift so I thanked them but they kept laughing. ‘It’s not from us. It’s from Bruder N. He says you are the only sister missionary that says hi to him and he is so sad you are leaving. He wants to marry you, he talks about you all the time in our lessons.’ Elder Stephens managed to say through his laughter. I was a bit shocked. Bruder N is one of the less actives that the ZLs meet with. I’ve probably said 10 words to him in my life! It was so thoughtful of him to get me a gift, no matter how random it was. That was an eye opener for me. You just really never know who you are touching when you are friendly and smile. I encourage you this week to stretch yourself and see who you can be nicer to this week. Who knows, maybe that little smile will brighten their whole day!
So on that note, I packed my bags (magically), and left Dresden. When I arrived in Schwarzenberg, I came to a brand new apartment. The ward has been wanting sisters for 15 years so when they heard the news, they kicked out the Elders and renovated our whole place in 2 days! (he he he, sorry Elders.) We have a touch screen stove top! This ward is so enthusiastic, I can’t wait to work with them! I know Sister Hansen and I are going to witness tons of miracles here.
Oh! Sister Hansen! You oughtta meet her! We like to sing High School Musical and talk about smoothies. She is from Sandy, Utah. Represent! I knew we would be friends when she said her favorite Broadway show is Aida.
This week has kind of been a whirlwind! I remember meeting some of the ward members. One of them hugged me and patted my butt the entire hug. I think she was blind. At least, I hope so. We had another eating appointment this Sunday. I figure I will spend at least 150 hours in eating appointments on my mission. They never cease to be awkward or amuse me. This time the grandmother made us cake but her 13 year old granddaughter was crying because she didn’t want to share her cake. Girl, I don’t blame you, that cake looked good!
Our mission car is broken which means we use our feet! The more we walk, the more chocolate we can eat! Yay!
My time is up, but I’d like to leave you on a spiritual note. Yesterday the speaker in Sacrament meeting said ‘the difference between praying and praying with faith is WORK.’ I couldn’t agree more. Sister Hansen and I are excited to pray with faith and see miracles happen here.
Until next time,
