It only came a month later…. ladies and gentlemen…please bring your hands together to welcome… S N O W! After many prayers and a lot of patience, Schwarzenberg is now covered in a light layer of stunning snow. I feel like I am living in Narnia, which is actually a pretty good comparison to what life is like on the mission. Especially with the two different worlds moving at different times. (Go read Narnia if you haven’t. Stop reading this lame blog and pick up some literature worthy of your eyes!)
I started off the week with making my most embarrassing German mistake to date. Let me set the scene. We are at a Family Home Evening at a member’s house with 3 of our investigators. (One of them being Count O, who I will talk about later.) Earlier that day, I had been brainstorming planner ideas and thought it would be funny to have one with a bunch of birds that says (in german) Come Bird Me instead of Come Follow Me. (side note: in german, the words FOLLOW and BIRD sound alike, so it was going to be very punny.) At Family Home Evening, I wanted to get one of the members to participate in the game we were playing with our investigators. He is 17 so I tried being cool and punny. I told him to ‘Come Bird Me’ as a joke to get him to play. His jaw dropped and he looked stunned that I would say such a thing. I didn’t think much of it, I was just trying to be punny. Flash Forward to the next morning when the Elders texted us to look up what ‘bird’ means as a verb. Turns out that is slang for an action that is not so mission appropriate. In fact, not normal life Lena appropriate. And I had told the member to do that, in front of our investigators!!!!!!!!!! Oh gosh. Big German language fail. The good thing is, I don’t think the investigators really heard it, and they all loved Family Home Evening, especially Count O.
I can’t remember if I have talked about him, but he’s the miracle guy we found a few weeks ago. We just gave him a card and he went on the website, wanted to know more, and we’ve been meeting ever since. He is not religious, but has a huge desire to know the truth. We watched Hilary Weeks’ Beautiful Heartbreak music video at Family Home Evening and later that night he called us to ask what that song was because he felt the Holy Ghost and wanted to watch it again. And he asked the member family if he could Skype them to study the scriptures when he goes to West Germany for work. So adorable!!!
The rest of the week was filled with building Ikea furniture for the Elder’s new apartment, and gliding around in the snow. It was a great week to say the least! I love hearing from you, especially when y’all send me your mission calls. We Are Going To Change The World!! (that’s a reference for you, miss rasmussen!)
